It’s a process with multiple phases: having babies, learning skills, seeing your elders die, and passing a generation. There are 8,000,000 years to go through so it’ll most likely take you a lot of time.
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Evolution
To start the evolutionary process, open up the Evolution menu which you can only access while sleeping in a bed. You can’t access it from anywhere else so construct a bed to slumber. The menu has a lot of nifty details so make sure to spend a couple of minutes here to get an idea of everything.
To undergo evolution, you’ve to fulfill the required criteria. It usually involves having at least a newborn baby, an evolutionary feat, and you must’ve passed one generation.
Evolutionary Feats in Ancestors are simple tasks that you can complete by playing the game as normal. A few examples of Evolutionary Feats can be discovering a new area, dodging attacks, killing, finding interesting items, so on and so forth.
Check the Evolutionary Feats menu to see what you’ve already completed and which feats you’re close to achieving. There are a lot of them so you won’t have much difficulty.
How to Evolve
After fulfilling the required criteria, start the evolution. The process will sometimes throw you in a totally new locality and you’ll have to find your way back to your old settlement to retrieve your goods.
Continue to evolve and you’ll slowly see yourself reaching to the point when the first men and women roamed the lands. But as I’ve mentioned before, reaching that point will probably take you a lot of time.
Note: Evolution is a large jump in time while passing generation is only 15 years.
Passing a generation fast forwards your game by 15 years. You need to do this to unlock new skills, unlock permanent genetic mutations, advance your ancestry, and is also a requirement to undergo evolution. But there are a few things you should consider doing before passing a generation.
The most important of these things is deciding which skills are worth passing on to your offsprings. During each generational leap, you’ll only be able to pass on a set number of skills. This is determined by the number of children born during the said generation.
More children translate into more Reinforcement Points which are required to pass on skills to your offsprings. Non-reinforced skills have a chance to be forgotten after a generation leap. This is why you should give a thought to which skills are worth locking in.
Once you’re ready, make the generation leap to see your children grow into adults, adults into elders, and elders into their graves. The first thing you should do after the leap is to mate your adults and have babies so that you’ve enough Reinforcement Points to pass the next generation.
To pass a generation, you must an adult in your clan and you must’ve at least one child in the clan, otherwise, there won’t be anyone to grow into an adult and continue to lineage. This is why it’s important to mate as often as possible and protect your children from any harm that may befall them.
Neuronal Energy Farming
Reinforcement Points are used to lock in a skill that you wish to pass onto your offsprings but you need Neuronal Energy to unlock them in the first place. To get Neuronal Energy in Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, you need to have as many children around you as possibly can whenever you’re performing different activities.
Here are a few pointers to help you farm more Neuronal Energy so that you can unlock more skills and become a better being.
As mentioned earlier, carrying children while you’re performing activities like constructing, exploring, eating, crafting, fighting, etc. will increase your Neuronal Energy by a large sum. But the safety of these children comes before anything else so make sure not to wander off in dangerous zones with multiple kids.
2. Intelligence, Sound, Smell
These are the senses you’ve access to in Ancestors. You should never rely on one sense and forget about the others. You need to use them all in conjunction for the most effectiveness.
While it’s always advised to stay close to your settlement at all times, especially if you’ve children tagging along but sometimes you’ve to risk it for the betterment of everyone. Exploring to discover new places and things like a meteor or a special rock goes a long way when it comes to earning Neuronal Energy.
