Here’s How to Fix Greedfall Crashes, Audio Problems, Black Screen, Application Load Error, FPS Drops, and Motion Sickness
Despite Greedfall being an incredible experience through and through, you may encounter random crashes, a few and far between FPS drops, unexpected black screen, audio not syncing properly, or the worst of all: motion sickness. Fixing these issues shouldn’t be hard if you know where to look which is exactly what this Greedfall troubleshooting and fixes guide is all about.
Troubleshooting Greedfall Crashes, Black Screen, Audio Issues
Before we talk about Greedfall issues and their possible fixes, take a minute to check if your rig meets the game’s minimum system requirements at its Steam page. To give you a summary, it requires at least 64-bit OS, 3rd generation i5, 8GB memory, and 2GB VRAM.
We’ve also listed all the possible Greedfall issues/errors below so that you can quickly read about what you need and get back to the game.
- Crash at Startup
- Error 0XC00007B
- Application Load Error 3:0000065432
- Black Screen Fix
- Audio Problems with Dialogue (Headsets)
- Audio not Synced Up
- Controller not Working
- FPS Drops and Stuttering
- Vsync Locked at 30 FPS on 4K TVs
- Game not Saving
- Motion Sickness Fix
1. Greedfall Crashes at Startup
If Greedfall is crashing on startup, see that you’ve got the Platform Update (Windows 7 64-bit) installed. To install that, first download the update from Microsoft and open the “Windows6.1-KB2670838-x64.msu” file.
If you’re on Windows 10 Insider Preview Build, know that Greedfall doesn’t fully support it and you must opt-out of the Windows Insider Program to play the game. To do that, you need to:
- Right-click on the Windows Start button and go to Settings
- Open Updates & Security
- Open Windows Insider Program
- Click on the “Stop Insider Preview Builds” button
Crashes can also occur because of Nvidia GeForce Experience or MSI Afterburner sometimes conflicting with the game files. Try to close them before starting the game.
2. Error 0XC00007B
This is a Microsoft DirectX related error that’s very simple to fix using DirectX End-User Runtimes application. To fix it, you need to go to Steam’s installation folder and navigate to:
Steamapps > common > Steamworks Shared > _CommonRedist > DirectX > June2010
Now simply run the “DXSETUP.exe” file. If the DirectX can’t be repaired, you can use Microsoft’s System File Checker tool to repair all your missing or corrupted files.
3. Application Load Error 3:0000065432
This error can sometimes occur because of antivirus installed on PCs. The first fix that you can try is to exclude the “GreedFall.exe” application from your antivirus if you’ve any.
If you don’t have an antivirus installed, go to your Steam “Library” and open Greedfall’s properties by right-clicking on it. Now go to the “Local Files” and click on the “Browse Local Files” button. Right-click on the “GreedFall.exe” application and open up properties.
Go to the “Compatibility” tab, check “Run this program as an Administrator”, and hit OK.
4. Black Screen Fix
If Greedfall doesn’t start and you just see a black screen for 2-3 seconds, the first thing that you need to do is to disable FreeSync. If it still doesn’t work, go to your game’s installation directory. It should be like this:
Steam > steamapps > common > GreedFall
Right-click on “GreedFall.exe” application and open up “Properties”. Now go to the “Compatibility” tab and check “Disable fullscreen optimizations” and hit OK. These fixes should allow you to play the game without any black screens.
5. Audio Problems with Dialogue (Headsets)
If you’re facing low dialogue volume when using headsets, you aren’t alone. The issue lies with dialogues being recorded in 5.1+ but your headsets or audio cards can’t play the extra channels which remain empty.
To fix this, you can use HeSuVi that creates a bridge between 5.1+ and stereo. We recommend the following settings for HeSuVi:
- Common HRIRs: atmos-.wav
- Matrix Upmix: Stereo and 5.1
- Content Format: Stereo
- Equalizer: Audio-Technica\ATH-M50x (Massdrop Velours Earpads) [Personal Preference]
- Additional – Device Filter: DFX Speakers, Scarlett 6i6 USB Speakers
6. Audio not Synced Up
Greedfall also has an issue with audio not synced up properly and being cut off earlier than it’s supposed to. To fix it, you should externally limit to 60 FPS with Nvidia Inspector.
If it doesn’t, another temporary fix is to start recording in desktop mode with Nvidia Shadowplay that should fix it while it’s recording. Doing this should allow you to play the game before a patch drops in.
7. Controller not Working
If your Xbox One or any other controller isn’t working, you need to check your Steam options. You should try to reload the controller configuration through Steam and disconnect any other controls like steering wheels, etc. to get it to work.
8. FPS Drops and Stuttering
If you’re encountering random FPS drops, you should consider lowering your textures. You may also encounter severe hitching and stuttering. To fix it, you need to make sure that the game is running in fullscreen and not windowed borderless which it’s by default.
Apply these two fixes and you should start getting a smoother gameplay experience.
9. Vsync Locked at 30 FPS on 4K TVs
If you’re trying to connect your PC to a 4K TV, you’ll probably see your resolution stuck at 720p with Vsync locked at 30 FPS. According to FHI Help Desk, this is a known issue that will be resolved in a future update. For now, you can either play in Windowed Mode or try turning off Vsync.
10. Game not Saving
If you’re unable to save your game’s progress or settings, try to look at your Windows 10 Real-Time Protection that has a tendency of blocking the game’s save files for some unknown reason. Try to disable it while playing Greedfall.
11. Motion Sickness Fix
Motion sickness is a massive issue with Greedfall. It usually occurs because of rapid camera movements during fights and other sequences like walking has a camera bob effect. You can try playing around with the FoV slider but it doesn’t seem to work all too well.
The only advice we can give you is to turn down the camera sensitivity. If it doesn’t work, you should probably wait for a patch. There isn’t any incentive of getting sick over a game.
